Kilsyth Community Council

Kilsyth Community Council was constituted in 1977 and in 2002 successfully petitioned the Lord Lyon King of Arms for the grant of Ensigns Armorial (Coat of Arms), which are based on those of the former Burgh of Kilsyth, originally established in 1620. The motto "Spe Expectamus" is derived from that of the Livingston family, lairds, Baronets and Viscounts of Kilsyth since the lands about were granted to them by Robert the Bruce.

The Arms were presented by the Ross Herald at a grand ceremony held at the Burngreen on 27th April 2002, in the presence of distinguished guests from home and abroad, including living representatives of the Livingston and Edmonstone families.

The Kilsyth Armorial Bearings:

The motto: "Spe Expectamus" is Latin for "We Look Forward in Hope"

The Community Council may permit other organisations and businesses to use the Arms as long as these are clearly identified as being the Armorial Bearings of Kilsyth Community Council, and the KCC has a final say in how they are used or displayed. The words "These are the armorial bearings of Kilsyth Community Council" must be shown below the Coat of Arms. It is customary for any company or body granted this right to make a donation to the Community Council.
