Kilsyth Community Council was constituted in 1977 and in 2001 successfully petitioned the Lord Lyon King of Arms for the grant of Ensigns Armorial (Coat of Arms) based on those of the former Burgh of Kilsyth. The motto "Spe Expectamus" derives from that of the Livingstons of Kilsyth. The Arms were presented by the Ross Herald, with due pageantry, at a grand ceremony held in Burngreen on 27th April 2002 , in the presence of distinguished guests from home and abroad.

The Kilsyth Armorial Bearings:

  • the open Bible represents the Kilsyth Religious Revivals
  • the crossed swords refer to the Battle of Kilsyth in 1645
  • the crossed shuttles remind us of the handloom weaving industry
  • the miner's lamp refers to the town's mining heritage

The motto: "Spe Expectamus" is Latin for "We Look Forward in Hope"

The Community Council may permit other organisations and businesses to use the Arms as long as these are clearly identified as being the Armorial Bearings of Kilsyth Community Council, and the KCC has a final say in how they are used or displayed. The words "These are the armorial bearings of Kilsyth Community Council" must be shown below the Coat of Arms. It is customary for any company or body granted this right to make a donation to the Community Council.
